Photographic Memory Film Promotion Competition

My friend and colleague Cathie has been given a challenge:

Embedded in this post is a short film called ‘Photographic Memory’ directed by my lovely friend Lara Leslie of Cut Both Ways, an independent film production company.

The film was a collaborative project involving 160 Londoners and 30 disposable cameras; each contributor took a self portrait and two photos of something representative of ‘their’ London, then passed the camera onto someone else.

The challenge is to get 50,000 hits on Youtube in the next month. Working on the premise that the more you do, the more you can do and because I adore the film, I have volunteered to devote my mad skillz to achieving this objective. So I’m putting my reputation, my somewhat overstretched schedule and possibly my sense of reason and proportion on the line to prove it can be done…

..and it struck me that this could be the perfect sequel to the velociroflcoptersaurus competition that Happener put on last year. So, if you’re interested, here’s the rules:

Your mission is to get the most clicks on this Youtube video within the next month.

If you want to compete, email me with the links you want to track. This could be a link to the video itself, or a link to a blog page of your own that you want to track, or both. I will provide you with a bit.ly link so that we can track the number of clicks through to those pages.

At the end of the month, competitors will submit

*1 paragraph explaining their tactics

*page view stats for pages not tracked by bit.ly (natural traffic, etc). This will have to be a screenshot. No photoshopping, I can tell by the pixels.

The winner will win adulation, respect, and a bottle of Laphroaig. The competition is open to anyone, consultants, gurus, Twitter fiends, advertisers and agencies alike. In the event of a team effort, you will still have to share the Laphroaig.

In the event of a tie, we will spring for a bottle each. In the event of a teetotaller winning… we’ll think of something.

The final results will be made public, but you can opt out of having them publicised if you wish.

The basic rules:

  • no spamming
  • no paid placement or paid advertising
  • no republishing of the video (it has to be the listed youtube link)
  • NO SPAMMING
  • judge’s decision is final
  • this is not an official competition, but some fun between colleagues
  • snark and backbiting will not be tolerated

Other than that, the rules are pretty open. As competition overseer, I’ll not be competing, but you will be up against Cathie’s mad skillz. Be afeared.
